It is never an easy decision to leave a job. Sometimes, it can be just as difficult to really know when it’s actually time to quit and move on. So how can you really tell if the time has come to move on from the job you are at?
You dread, you know more, and you can read the signs
The first sign is that you hate getting up in the morning knowing where you will be stuck for the next 8 or 9 hours. There is always that looming sense of dread that hangs in the air around you. It’s not you, it’s your job. Another sure sign is that you are more capable than your boss. It shows a lack of management skill on the part of the company if they have less than capable managers. Which, of course leads to the possibility that your company is going under especially if management is poor. Are you seeing the signs?
Your boss is just standing, the romance is gone and you’re loop-less
When you are young and aggressive and passionate, the top doesn’t seem all that far away from your grasp. However, if your immediate boss is just marking time and not moving up, it is time to seek a new job because you will end up just like him or her if you stay. If your passion and love for what you were doing is gone then move on because the passion will never come back. Also, it is time to move on if you are always out of the loop. If you see that you are not being included and valued by the company, then it’s time to exit.
Everything is suffering and you’re not going anywhere
The stress and the dread have begun to take its toll on you and your health. Prolonged anxiety and stress can lead to physical illness and depression. Is any job worth that? Also, your relationships are suffering. Being stuck in a place you don’t want to be will take a toll on your personal life too. Finally, your job should challenge you and allow you to new learn things and to advance your position. If that’s not happening than it may be time to move on.
